AMED TIMES - At Dicle College Faculty of Medicine Hospital in Diyarbakır, health care workers and patient attendants who ate the rice with kebab, soup, ash and salad served for lunch on July 17, 2024 fell ill. The situation of the numerous people who were hospitalized with suspected food poisoning was brought to the Parliament. The CHP deputy for Diyarbakır, Sezgin Tanrıkulu, has submitted a comprehensive parliamentary question to Health Minister Kemal Memişoğlu for a response.

Statement by Health and Social Service Workers Union (SES)  Diyarbakır

SES Diyarbakır representative Bekir Toprak stated that Aysun Balıkçı, who was treated in a private hospital, was transferred to the intensive care unit this morning but returned to the normal ward after an operation. Toprak also mentioned that some of the poisoned health workers will go to Özel Halk Sağlığı for examination. Aysun Balıkçı is among the approximately 100 health care workers who were poisoned by the food distributed at Dicle College.

Tanrıkulu put the following questions to the Minister of Health:

  • How many employees were affected on July 17, 2024?
  • Were deficiencies in food hygiene and heating procedures identified?
  • Does the company providing the meal service prepare the food on site or by transportation?
  • Are regular checks carried out to ensure that the company complies with the tender conditions and hygiene requirements?
  • Have samples of the meals been taken and tested, and what are the results of these tests?
  • Are there any complaints related to the company's past performance and are these records made public?
  • Has the hospital management initiated any legal or administrative investigations against the company?
  • Has the Ministry of Health become involved in the incident? What are the ongoing review and investigation procedures?
  • Are the allegations that employees were prevented from filing a complaint with the Attorney General's Office true?
  •  Is the allegation that the hospital management did not submit a report on the poisoning true?
