The Diyarbakır Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DTSO) is preparing to provide tablets to students who choose Kurdish as an elective subject in the Kurmancî and Kirmanckî (Zazakî) dialects in grades 5, 6, 7 and 8 for the 2024-2025 school year. 300 tablets were distributed to students in 2022 DTSO board member Faruk Korkmaz recalled that they gave away 300 tablets to students in 2022 to promote Kurdish elective subjects. The tablet distribution ceremony will be held on Saturday, 25 May, at the Sezai Karakoç Congress Centre. Korkmaz explained that the decision to distribute tablets was made in 2023 but was postponed due to the 6 February earthquakes. He explained that 5,600 students in Diyarbakır province chose Kurdish as an elective subject and 1,145 of them applied for tablets. Korkmaz called on non-governmental organisations and the business community to support the preservation of the Kurdish language. Korkmaz emphasised that the DTSO Assembly wants to cooperate with relevant NGOs in the city for the ongoing project: We call on all other NGOs, this is not just our duty, it is everyone's duty.
